Bank Account

It is very practical to have your own German bank account, particularly if you have decided to do your entire studies in Germany. Many students need a German bank account anyway because German scholarships / funds can not be transfered to foreign accounts. The advantage of having a German bank account is that you can use the cash point free-of-charge and you can pay via EC-card.
It is up to you to decide at which bank you open a bank account. The largest banks in Germany are: Sparkasse, Deutsche Bank, Volksbank, Dresdner Bank, Postbank and Commerzbank. The last five are members of the so called CashGroup, which means, you can also use the cash point of the other banks also free-of-charge.
