Registering at the RWTH / FH

To become a student at the RWTH, you must register as an official student. When you complete your registration, you will receive a matriculation number that serves to identify you as a student at the RWTH. Because matriculation numbers are only used once, they can effectively track each student’s records over the entire period of study and beyond.
Regulations governing registration vary according to whether you are an EU or non-EU national and whether there are restricted admissions for your chosen course of study.
Students from the EU
Courses of Study with Open Admissions
Students from EU countries who want to pursue a course of study at the RWTH with open admissions can, provided they have fulfilled the necessary requirements, simply register at the international office within the designated registration period.

Courses of Study with Restricted Admissions
Students from EU countries who have been accepted for a course of study with restricted admissions must report to the registrar (Studierendensekretariat) with their letter of admission and all further necessary documentation within the designated registration period.

Students from Non-EU Countries
Students from countries outside the EU must apply for all courses of study, regardless whether they are governed by restricted admissions. You can find more information about the application process here.
You will be notified in writing whether you have been accepted into your chosen course of study. If you are accepted and plan to study at the RWTH, you will have to give written notification by a given deadline. If the deadline is missed, your spot will be offered to another student. After arriving in Germany, you must register at the RWTH’s International Office.

Registering at the FH
Students who have been accepted at the FH Aachen must register within a given time period at the registrar (Studierendensekretariat). Make sure to bring you letter of admission and all other necessary documentation.
