Application for a Study Place RWTH

International

After you have decided to spend part or all of your study time at the RWTH, you usually have  to apply for a place on a course of study.
There are different application requirements for students from EU– and Non-EU-countries as well as for fields of study with free or limited admission quotas. Therefore we would like to present an overview. For further information pls. contact the international office or the student secretary/administration office.

Students from EU-countries

Admission-free studies

The application forms are available from the student administration service. You should submit the application at least six months before you would like to enroll.
Pls.  consider the  application periods.

After you have been granted a place on a course of study you have to enroll at the student administration service within the enrollment periods.

Students From Non-EU-countries

The application processes for limited-admission and admission-free fields of study are similiar for students from non-EU countries.
The students have to fulfil certain admission requirements. In general they have to fulfil the same admission requirements to study at the RWTH  as they would to be admitted to university in their home country, e.g. a minimum final grade.
Four years of study and a final pass grade equivalent to "2 (good)" of the German grade system usually enables the applicant to enrol to study at the RWTH.
For an overview about the admission requirements for individual countries click here.

In all cases the acceptance of any student application is based on the proof of sufficient German language skills. To apply for a placeon an admission-free field of study the certificates can be delivered at the time of enrolment.

To apply for a place on a limited admission field of study the certificates should be attached to the application form, otherwise the application cannot be taken into consideration.

The RWTH accepts the certificates of the following providers:

  • DSH (German language test for university entry)
  • TestDaF (Test for German as a foreign language)
  • KMK II (German language diploma, second level)
  • KDS (Minor German language diploma), GDS (Major German language diploma) and ZOP (Central highschool exam) of Gothe institute
  • The German language exam II of the Institute of Languages and Interpreters Munich

The application form can be obtained from the Academic Foreign Affairs department or is available to download.

Send the filled-out form and all other required documents within the admission deadlines to the International Office.
A complete application should contain:

  1. A copy of school certificates
  2. A copy of the university entrance exam
  3. Copies of all grade lists of every year (if you started your studies in your home country)
  4. A copy of your university graduation certificate (if you completed your studies in your home country)
  5. A copy of the language certificates

The documents have to be delivered in German, French or English language. For all documents in different languages the applicant has to initiate the translation to be carried out by certified translators. Pls add the grade scale to all documents which include grade information.
