LEWE from CAMEROON
„The German sun is like the light of the fridge“
Lewe comes from Cameroon and is in the third semester of studying Electrical Engineering,
The fact that the German sun is not as warm as expected was not the only surprise to Lewe at the beginning of his stay in Germany. Smoking kids, and youngsters and couples hanging about in the streets were also a surprise. The biggest problem for Lewe was finding suitable accomodation in Aachen. After various moves he settled in a nice room in one of the student housing facilities.
It took him six months in total to become accustomed to the German way of life. The reassurance given to him by other people from Cameroon was really encouraging.
Lessons learned: If you leave your home country you have also to be ready to move on mentally and become a creative problem solver to master the numerous challenges awaiting you in a foreign country.
